In accordance with the Federal Law "About Weapons" are prohibited for circulation in the territory of the Russian Federation knives with a blade length of more than 90 mm, design of which allows you to extract the blade with the automatic or inertia accelerated motion, including “Butterfly knife” (Balisong) type.

Combat knives (such as bayonets, daggers), in Russian terminology a "cold weapon", permitted only at presence of the hunter’s license. Getting the license for foreigners is a very hard bureaucratic procedure. Knives are "cold weapons" are prohibited for use in sports.

Knives are not weapons, if corresponding below requirements (at least one):

Knives, blades which are not suitable for the prick:

1. Knives without tip. The tip can be rounded or replaced a tool (screwdriver, chisel width-term over 3 mm).

2. Knives with a tip positioned above the handle of more than 5 mm.

It should be noted that the knives corresponding to this feature has not limitations at the length of the blade and the barriers for fingers.

3. Knives with maximum sag of the blade more than 5 mm at blade's lengths up to 180 mm  and more than 10 mm at the blade's length 180 mm longer.

4. Knives with sharpened hook for cutting skins which located on the butt (the back of blade) no further 1/3 from the tip.

5. Knives, in which the value of the deflection back of blade and top of the handle of the knife shaped arc, up from the conventional straight line connecting the tip of the blade and the top of the handle end exceeds 15 mm.

6. Any knives with blades shorter than 90mm.

7. Knives whose edge and butt converge at an angle greater than 70 degrees.

8. Knives with butt more 5-6mm thick.

Note - The thickness of the butt measured at the widest spot (eg heel) blade.

9. Knives with not sharpened blades. Knife's immitation

One of the most important features of "cold weapons" knife is trauma-protection handle. The elements of trauma-protection handle are garda, crossbar, barrier for fingers, recess under fingers.

 

Trauma-unsafe handle: handle of knife not provide reliable retention at a prick, fingers slide to the blade.

Formal features trauma-unsafe handle:

10. Knives with handle shorter 70mm .

11. Knives with handle, in which the difference of the maximum diameter in the middle portion handle and a minimum diameter in the tops do not exceed 8 mm.

12. If knife's handle have a single barrier for fingers or recess under finger, it must be less 5mm. Knives with more than one recess or limiter, value each of their must be less 4 mm.

13. The thickness of the heel of the blade used as a limiter less than 3.5 mm;

 

14. Any knives with blade's hardness less 25HRC (Souvenirs, aluminum, plastic).

15. Any knives with a blade length of less 150 mm and a butt (the back of blade) thickness less 2.5 mm. The thickness of the butt measured at the widest spot (eg heel) blade. It should be noted that the knives corresponding to this feature has not limitations at the barriers for fingers.

The knife has a blade length of 150 mm and a thickness of 2.2 mm butt.

16. Deactivated combat knives with incision on blades.

17. Knives with weak connection blade and handle, (blade loosely inserted into the handle and filled sealing wax)

Not allowed manufacturing of sporting knives with two-side fully sharpened blades (daggers). Allowed butt sharpening on a length of not more than 2/3 of the butt.

Allowed on the butt of the knife additional tools, such as saws, hook knife.

 

Knife with trauma-protection handle and straight sharp blade thickness of 2.5 - 6mm will cause a lot of questions from the police. Illegal "cold weapons" confiscated. Production and sale of weapons is a crime.
